Charles welcomes you to his 200 yr old timber framed, ‘upside-down’ rural home. This one is a major retrofit!
Modifications:
Major retrofit in the last 3 years. Very well insulated, triple glazed, ASHP, micro ASHP for hot water from waste heat recovery, solar panels with batteries, EV point plus cable for a second one.
Motivation to retrofit:
We divided our large house in two to provide rental income for retirement and improved the energy efficiency of the house to control costs into the future.
Approximate cost:
Hard to say as it was part of a large renovation project.
Approximate energy savings:
Not really measurable as the house did not previously exist in its present form. We can give figures for the solar installation.
Benefits:
Comfort, low bills.
Who did the work:
James Robson building who i'd reccomend.
Next steps:
- Get an electric vehicle - cosideration: cost
- Wind turbine - consideration: cost and space
- A third battery - consideration: cost
- Rainwater collection - consideration: haven’t got round to it yet.
