Merry Albright from Border Oak welcomes you to their ultra sustainable new build commercial barn in Kingsland.
Modifications:
We have built with the barn with a sharp focus on all elements of sustainability. The barn is Super insulated (wood fibre), all natural/reused/recylcable materials, FSC/PEFC timber structure, local (and untreated) timber cladding and wood insulation. It is made hyper locally (oak frame made within 30 metres!).
We have an air source heat pump, underfloor heating, triple glazing, solar shading, low water use, minimal cement, steel or concrete and have incorporated longevity and adaptability into the design, which is also an accessible build.
Low carbon expenditure, high carbon capture, non toxic, reusable and natural. Made and operated with on site renewable energy (PV) and all electric.
Motivation:
We had a unique opportunity to start from scratch as we were replacing an industrial building on site that was not fit for purpose.
Benefits:
We have been able to trial new methods and materials and investigate how these can potentially be expanded upon.

We aim to landscape the yard and workshop area to introduce nature into the working area, plus plant a hedge and look into replacing our septic tanks.
