David and Vanessa welcome you to their rural detached renovated and extended 19th century cottage.
Modifications:
Ground source heat pump and solar pv with battery, ev charger, iBoost, oil fired aga replaced with electric range. Switch to 2 rate tariff.
Motivations to make changes:
To move to renewable energy sources and move away from oil fired heating.
Approximate costs:
Approx £10k net cost after RHI for heating. ~ £13k for PV.
Approximate energy savings:
Savings variable with power and oil price variation. As power prices rise heat pump savings drop but solar PV savings rise. Heat Pump saved over 3 tonnes CO2 per annum. PV also saved over a tonne and switching to electric cooking almost another tonne.
Benefits:
More consistent heating level with "background" heating from heat pump. Ability to utilise cheap overnight tariffs with battery to dramatically reduce electricity costs by load switching. During summer ALL power costs 7p/kWh including for EV. Lower average import rates during winter.
Next steps:
Minor insulation improvements.
