The home
Detached bungalow, built 2005, timber frame with brick skin. Slate roof. Recent flat roofed extension with lantern.
Modifications:
Installed solar panels (pv).Increased insulation in roof-space. New extension to kitchen with underfloor heating, maximum insulation, triple glazing and increased thermal comfort. Converted garage to bathroom and bedroom also with underfloor heating. Replaced gas boiler with air-source heat pump. Cut off mains gas and have induction hob. House is now all electric.
Motivations:
To reduce carbon footprint and become more energy efficient and self sufficient.
Approximate costs:
Including new extension, the costs were approximately £65,000
Approximate energy savings:
Water, heating, lights, but excluding minimal LPG cooker use is less than £90 per month. But this INCLUDES (electric) fuel for our car as well.
Benefits:
Too soon to judge what energy savings were made, but PV panels make significant contribution to energy bill.
