Graeme welcomes you to his 127m2 2-3 bed detached of recent timber construction to Passivhaus standard. They demolished a 200-year old hovel that was all but collapsing. Deep retrofit is a better idea for sound buildings.

Modifications:

Is full Passivhaus but we added 4kw PV.

Sustainable construction and low running costs.

Approximate cost:

Maybe + £18,000 over and above the cost of building regs.

Approximate savings:

About 80% less than a similar house of conventional construction.

Next steps:

We wanted a cellar but geology did not permit.
We want external louvre shutters but have not got round to it.
We considered an air-source heat pump but rejected it because at the time it was too expensive considering our tiny annual energy bills. We may now install.
